Fellow Americans, the time has come for a new era—a new page in our political history. For eight long years, we have tolerated extensive blundering and mismanagement from the current administration. Voter participation has declined, some say they have lost hope, and our international status is crying for repair. This is what you Americans have wanted to fix. This is what you, my fellow Americans, have been striving to fix. And this, people of America , is what I will work with you to change.

We must reestablish our faith in the power of the political process and its supreme ability to bring about change. As your president, I will establish our nation’s position as a cooperative leader at the head of the international table. The Democratic campaign this year is about the establishment of a new America in a new age.

Nowhere else in the world can anyone come with nothing and establish themselves. America is unique in this regard. It remains a shining bastion where anything is possible and where the American Dreams stays strong. We must keep this beacon alight even as it has become obscured by economic malaise, ineffective programs, and diplomatic conflict by the current administration.

We must carry on the ideals enshrined by the Founding Fathers in our Constitution. This means me must do more for people—people like the factory workers I met in Michigan who compete with their own children for jobs. People like the cancer patient who had no family left, except for his sister, and could not afford decent healthcare. People like the immigrants who come here from Sudan and cannot find their way. People like the soldiers who go to the frontline and fight their hearts out for the country they so love.

But we also understand the value of hard work. These people work hard to make a living, and our government will give them the help they need to solve their problems and achieve a level of independence. We believe in a country of both equity and equality—one that serves the purpose we hold up in our constitution.

The time is now for creating a new kind of bipartisan politics based on hope, trust, and international cooperation. We must move past party politics, and we must unite our country on all fronts. After all, we all ultimately believe in the same ideals, and the kind of eyes that we see these ideals through should not matter. We cannot divide states into such clear-cut colors and parties; our country is built on a fundamental diversity and strength that we must realize. With an understanding of this, we can create unity and bring about change in key issues, such as the economy, health care, foreign policy, and education. I will not do what is best for just one person or for just one party. I will do what is best for this nation and its people as a whole.

America , let us revitalize our government and international standing. Let us give strength to each other by uniting behind common ideals. There is no better time than now to work for the change that we have wanted. We believe in making healthcare accessible. We believe in a foreign policy based on diplomacy first, before force. We believe in making sure you have a comfortable life and can bring food to the table. We believe in the value of education and its role in shaping tomorrow. We believe in reestablishing America and changing the nature of politics. There is no better time than now for this change. Vote Chetty today for a better Tomorrow.

Economy: I promise to rejuvenate economic prosperity through revised fiscal and monetary policy, tax cuts for the poor, graduated tax increases on the rich upper 30 percent, and rebates. The Bush tax cuts for the upper-class will be removed. Once the economy is growing, I will make budget cutbacks to eliminate debt and our burgeoning deficit. My goal is to make sure every one of you has a comfortable living and can bring food to the table.

Health Care: I seek to make healthcare affordable to all, but I will not require it for those that do not want it. I will make sure that when a loved one is ill, proper insurance and coverage will not be a concern. When it comes to reform for such policy, I will not coerce you to adopt coverage. Rather, I will lead you and allow you to experience for yourself my strong, proven health care policy.

Foreign Policy and Iraq: The conflict has gone on for too long, and it is time to pull out—but with a concrete plan. I seek to pull out within six months, with pride and respect, while peacefully and effectively transferring control to the Iraqis. We must stabilize the foreign policy situation in the Middle East and give America a seat at the head of the diplomatic negotiating table.

Immigration: I will provide a clear path for illegal immigrants to become citizens, but I will also work diplomatically with Latin American countries to help them improve their economic situation. This path to citizenship will ensure that only those who are committed to becoming American citizens will complete it.

Social Issues: I support laws permitting gay marriage. We are a society that believes in the individual rights of its people and permitting freedom of sexual orientation is a part of this. Additionally, I believe in allowing abortions up to the sixth week of pregnancy. We must not burden inexperienced mothers with babies that will be mistreated, but we must not terminate a fetus once it has reached a developed, “breathing” stage. Finally, I believe in allowing stem cell research. The benefits of such research far outweigh the costs. Stem cells are not developed, but their potential to lead to cures for innumerable diseases is unlimited. We must see the greater good here.

Education: A better education means a better future. The ineffective No Child Left Behind Act, which has ruined school funding and shifted focus to standardized testing, should be scrapped and replaced with better reform. I also believe in the separation of church and state, and evolution should be taught over creationism or intelligent design. Nevertheless, I also believe in giving schools the choice of a curriculum, and--if a school is interested in a creation-based curriculum in a completely separate and optional class--they may submit a plan to the state for approval procedures.

Crime: Capital punishment should not be used. It is often immoral and largely wastes financial resources; justice is not served through capital punishment. As for gun control, all assault weapons should be completely banned. Gun control law should be tightened to prevent everyday acquisition of weapons.

Environment: Global warming is a clear danger in today’s world, and it must be taken more seriously by America . The Republican administration has not been following the Kyoto protocol, and this must change. Alternative energy and better gas mileage will be required nationally. Acting on this issue is of critical importance.

Civil Liberties: The Patriot Act has so far been ineffective and simply invades the privacy of many Americans. Instead, we should investigate established terrorist connections that will lead to legitimate evidence.
