Ms. Kinsch's 5th grade class's American Idea, "Found" Style
Found poetry is the rearrangement of words, phrases, and sometimes whole passages that are taken from other sources and reframed as poetry by changes in spacing and/or lines (and consequently meaning), or by altering the text by additions and/or deletions. Ms. Kinsch's 5th grade class applied this same concept to essays written by her students, to create a "Found" style essay:

Freedom is the
basis of America. To have freedom is to choose what you want to do, and
not all other countries have this extraordinary right. Our freedom of
speech, the freedom to vote, the freedom to
practice our own religion, and many other freedoms makes us special in the
world. You have a choice of what you
want to happen because you can vote on what you think is the right thing to do.
To have free speech is to be able to express your opinion freely on certain
subjects. If we could not say what we think, the best
way to solve our problems wouldn't be found. Expressing ourselves is all
we could ever ask for.
Because of Americas freedoms, many people come to
America, and so America is extremely diverse. America has rights that
other countries don't and they are guaranteed by the Bill of Rights.
People have the equal right to go to school without being bullied for their
beliefs. Our family can practice my own religion
and not be judged by skin color at work or
school. We are free to choose the job we want to do and to benefit from
our own hard work. All of these reasons and more such as diversity, to
safely protest, to have the right to vote, and to have a fair trial is what
makes being a American the best freedom of all. The best part, though, is
you get to say what you want. No one can take our freedoms away from
us.
